The Department of Nephrology, Lund has extensive experience in Nephrology research comprising a Laboratory for vasculitis research, a Laboratory for research in membrane physiology and Clinical research in exercise training, effects of dialysis mode on morbidity and mortality, effects of parathyroidectomy on morbidity and mortality in patients on renal replacement therapy.

RESEARCHERS

Associate professor Naomi Clyne, MD, leads the clinical research group at the Department of Nephrology. She has led the RENEXC study, a large randomized controlled trial comparing two different types of exercise training in nondialysis dependent patients with chronic kidney disease, who participated in a homebased exercise training programme for 12 months. RENEXC has to date generated two PhD theses of which she was the main supervisor for both of them. Two more PhD thesis are ongoing within the RENEXC study of which she is main supervisor for both of them.

Matthias Hellberg, MD, PhD was project manager of the RENECX trial and his thesis analyzed the primary outcomes. He is currently head of the Nephrology Department in Lund.
